Good practice

Do you know which laptops, phones and network kit you own, and who has each one?

Do you know which laptops, phones, tablets and network devices your company owns, and who has each one?

What to record for every device

  • Type, manufacturer, model and serial number.
  • The person or location it's assigned to.
  • Purchase date, warranty end and planned replacement date.
  • Whether it's encrypted, and whether the company can lock or wipe it remotely.
  • Its status: in use, being repaired, in storage or retired.

Update it whenever equipment is issued, returned, replaced or disposed of.

Why it matters

Cyber Essentials requires you to know what's in scope. Insurers ask. And when someone leaves, the inventory is how you know what to collect. For practices with rendering workstations and site laptops, it's also how you plan the replacement cycle instead of being surprised by it.

We can build and maintain an inventory for you, and identify any company devices that are missing, unsupported or due for replacement.
