What a network diagram should show
Your internet connection(s), the firewall, the switches, wireless access points, any servers or NAS, the important cloud services, and how they connect. It should also record key device names, network addresses and where the admin credentials are kept (not the credentials themselves).
Keep it current, keep it reachable
Update it whenever equipment or services change. Store a copy somewhere you can get to during an outage, which means not only on the server that's just gone down.
When you'll be glad you have it
Troubleshooting a fault, replacing equipment, planning an upgrade, an office move, a cyber insurance renewal, or responding to a security incident. In every one of those, the first question is "what have we got?"
